Acne "Another pimple!" Remember those teenage years? We tried everything over the counter to combat those "zits". I don't seem to remember anyone ever mentioning the real root of the problem, toxins. Yes, toxins! Intestinal membranes become irritated and inflamed when loaded with toxic waste, which can lead to the toxins being absorbed into the blood stream. Acne is the body's way of eliminating those toxins through the skin. Moving the bowels at least 2-3 times a day is vital to health. Optimally having a bowel movement 30 minutes after each meal would be the goal. So lets look at somethings that can help cleanse the intestines and keep the bowels moving. The most critical element needed for a cleanse is water. Drink ½ ounce water daily for every pound of body weight. Therefore, a 100 pound person should drink approximately 50 ounces of water each day. Good water, reverse osmosis, not distilled as that will deplete the minerals in the body, is imperative. Nature's Spring Reverse Osmosis machine would be ideal. Fiber is the second most important supplement needed to cleanse the body. Fiber absorbs toxins in the colon and carries them out of the body. Toxins can be reabsorbed and recycled through the body without adequate fiber to help pull them out. Nature's Three or Psyllium Hulls Combination are good fiber products. Starting with 1 heaping teaspoon in 8-12 oz. of water or juice first thing upon rising, working up to 1 heaping tablespoon. For someone with an inflammatory bowel disorder, any discomfort, or cramping in the intestines, Slippery Elm (12 -24 capsules a day or in bulk 1 tbsp. twice a day) or Intestinal Soothe and Build would be my first choice. Slippery Elm doesn't blend easily and will thicken quickly. A shaker cup or blender is recommended. Drink immediately. Remember, water, water, water! Blood purifiers, alternatives, are the 3rd choice for acne. Alternative herbs such as Red Clover, Burdock, or Una de Gato help clean toxins from the fluid of the body, facilitating better lymphatic movement. These bitter herbs also aid the liver to detoxify by stimulating the flow of bile which causes the toxins to be flushed and transported to the intestinal track where the fiber will absorb them and carry them out of the body. Liver Cleanse is and all time favorite as it is a gentle cleanser as it increases bile flow while at the same time rebuilding the liver. Cleansing without rebuilding will put you back to square one. Symptoms of a sluggish liver are waking up at night for any reason such as fluffing your pillow, checking the alarm clock, and using the bathroom. Skin tags, moles, passing gas, bloating, and hormonal imbalances are also symptoms. We suggest starting Liver Cleanse as directed then adding 1 capsule a day per week until sleeping through the night or gassiness has subsided. Parasites could also be causing symptoms of acne. Adding Black Walnut as an anti-parasite may also be necessary if the acne has not been resolved with the above mentioned.
