BRONCHITIS

Bronchitis is an inflammation of the small tubes in the lungs resulting from a respiratory infection or congestion. Whenever possible do not suppress the cough as the coughing is the body's way of eliminating the irritant. 

First line of defense in any respiratory illness is to greatly reduce and even eliminate dairy products in order reduce mucus production.   Reducing white flour and sugar also helps.  Increasing water intake will help thin the mucus, thus making it easier to expel.

It is important to break up hardened mucus.  Marshmallow Fenugreek, along with Garlic, is and excellent decongestant and expectorant combination.  It helps when there is a deficient production of mucus, causing a dry cough, and helps to soothe the respiratory passages.  Adding Mullein can greatly increase the effectiveness. 

For children ages 8 and under, try 1 capsule of Marshmallow Fenugreek, and 1 capsule of Mullein every hour with a large glass of water until mucus breaks up and starts to move out of the lungs.  Decrease capsules to 1 four times daily until cough is very productive.

Chinese Lung Support TCM Concentrate may be used to help heal and strengthen lungs that are too weak to clear all mucus.   For children under age 8, the suggested dosage is 1 capsule daily.  For children ages 8-16, 1 capsule twice daily.  Adults, 1 capsule 3 times daily until no longer coughing.

If this is a chronic condition for your child, Lobelia is known to keep air passages open and to help clear lymphatic channels.   For children under age 8, suggested dosage is 1 capsule twice daily.  For children age 8-16 years, 2 capsule twice daily and for adults, 3 capsules twice daily.  If nausea occurs, cut back on dosage. We suggest adding St. John's Wort to this protocol, same dosage as above.

If cough is spastic, add Lobelia, 15 drops, which can help relax the muscles to help the child get a good night's sleep.  Lobelia can also be rubbed on the chest and down the spine to help relax bronchials and reduce inflammation.
