COLIC

Babies with colic often have digestion problems causing acute abdominal pain from cramping and gas.

Carminative herbs are beneficial for colicky babies as they stimulate blood flow in the digestive tract, help settle the stomach, relieve bloating, and expel gas.

Catnip and Fennel extract is a traditional herbal combination for colic, gas, nausea, upset stomach, food allergies, and other bowel issues.  Recommended dosage, 3-10 drops straight or diluted in water as needed.  A tea can also be made from Catnip and Fennel capsules, 2-3  per 8 ounces of water, and put in the child's bottle to be sipped throughout the day.

Roman Chamomile and Peppermint are excellent essential oils that can be combined and rubbed gently on the infant's or child's stomach to help calm nerves, relieve abdominal pain, bloating, and expel gas.  It's amazing to see the results from these essential oils.  Simply mix 1 drop of each essential oil to 10 drops of a carrier oil, such as coconut oil or olive oil. (Mixing the essential oils with the carrier oil prevents any possible irritation to the skin).

To help prevent colic some nursing mothers take Probiotic 11, 4 twice a day and Food Enzymes with every meal and snacks.

Avoiding such as: Chocolate, Broccoli, Cauliflower, Saure Craut, Cabbage, Onions and Garlic is important in not overtaxing a baby's digestive system.
